ntroduction to FCUs:
FCUs (Fan Coil Units) are standalone units that cool or heat a single room.
FCUs differ from AHUs (Air Handling Units), which are centralized and serve multiple rooms or entire buildings.
Components of FCUs:
Blower: Draws air from the room and moves it over the coils.
Coil: Heats or cools the air. Cooling coils use chilled water; heating coils use hot water or electricity.
Filter: Removes dirt and debris, keeping the unit clean.
Drain Pan: Catches water from the cooling coil to prevent damage and mold.
Actuator Valve: Regulates water flow through the coil, controlling temperature.
Thermostat: Allows room temperature control with modes for cooling, heating, and fan speed settings.
Vents: Intake (return air) and discharge (supply air) for room air circulation.
Application:
Common in small office buildings, hotel rooms, apartments, and condominiums.
Suited for spaces needing individual room temperature control.
Operation:
The blower draws air into the unit, which is then heated or cooled by passing over coils.
The conditioned air is returned to the room through the supply vent.
The process repeats until the desired temperature is reached.
